Rara Lake trek is the gem of Nepal, placed beautifully in the remotest Himalayan womb. The people of Nepal have rightly named the lake the Queen of the Lakes. Located in the Rara National Park in Mugu district of western region, it is one of the rare lakes located at the most remotest areas in the entire world.

Though Rara National Park is the smallest park in Nepal it is the most scenic one in the country with an area over 105 square kilometers. It is identified as one of the attractive parks in the world for its unique location, ecosystem and natural beauty. The remoteness comes as a boon in disguise for the wildlife here – Himalayan black bear, musk deer, common leopards, Himalayan goral and other exotic animals are seen in this area.

This trek possess the melodrama of its own narrative display of clear high altitude lakes, with diverse flora and faunas of more than 500 different kinds of herbs and flowers well coupled with the stunning views of the snow-capped Himalayan peaks. Likewise, the park provides shelter to more than 20 different species of mammals and 214 species of birds. You can choose whether to camp or take a basic homestay to accommodate your stay. It is recommended that you choose the homestay as you get to experience the Nepali hospitality first hand and also it is less expensive.

The vast distance you have to cover that includes several highs and lows will entice the essence of the very existence of humans, isolated settlements, their culture. After few preparations, a flight to Nepalgunj. An evening walk around some monuments

Take an early flight to Jumla and start trekking towards Padmara passing the steep ascent.

Ascend towards north alongside Ghurseni river, cross Khalilanga pass. Then descend through dense forest and after crossing some bridges reach Bumra.

Continue trekking towards North to reach Ghautha Khola and climb dense forest to arrive in the valley. From here you ascend further to reach Peene.

A short hike towards the dreamland.

Even a lifetime is not long enough to spend in Rara lake. A day is pretty short but you can explore it as much as you can.

Hike around the Lake and descend to Khatyagadh . Ascend through the dense forest and to Chuchemara dara then finally reach Ghorasain

Descend to Botan valley then to Okharpati village and finally arrive at Sinja.

Cross the Sinja river and trek along the Jaljale gadh, afterwards ascend the ridge. Descend towards the beautiful meadow and reach CHere CHaur.

A pleasant descend through beautiful valley and dense rhododendron forests. Hike past couple of villages and fields following the river till Jumla.

Flight from Jumla is highly dependent on the weather condition due to extreme windy location. If possible after reaching Nepalgunj, a flight back to Kathmandu.
