The alluring kingdom of Lo Manthang
Placed in the rain shadow of Dhaulagiri, Lo Manthang is an alluring territory in Upper Mustang surrounded by rocky desolate landscape all around. The rock formations and barren landscape define the features of Lo Manthang. There are some traditional villages with colorful fields that resembles to oasis amidst the deserts. Welcome to the capital city of Nepal! Kathmandu, the capital city of Nepal is a center of art and culture. It preserves some fantastic forms of cultural, historical and religious heritages in Nepal. A representative from our company will pick you up and the airport and escort you to a pre booked hotel in Kathmandu. Overnight at a hotel in Kathmandu
We pick you up from your hotel in the early morning and transfer you to a bus station to catch a tourist bus to Pokhara. The journey from Kathmandu to Pokhara is about six hours drive along a scenic landscape full of rivers, hills, villages and countryside views. We take a drive along Pprithvi Highway that follows Trishuli river in its first half. After lunch, we traverse through a wonderful path to Pokhara city. Upon arrival, you will be transferred to a hotel in Pokhara. Enjoy your time at the hotel. Overnight at the hotel in Pokhara
As there is no any direct flight to Jomsom, we take a drive from Kathmandu to Pokhara and fly to the wonderful town of Jomsom. Early in the morning, we drive to Pokhara airport to catch a flight to Jomsom. Jomsom is the actual commencement point of our Upper Mustang Trek journey. Leaving Jomsom, we walk for around four to five hours to Kagbeni. It is said that Kagbeni used to the ancient capital city of Mustang. It acts as a border between upper and lower Mustang. We do not need any kind of permit to travel to Kagebi but one will require a special permit to walk up to upper restricted regions. Overnight at Kagbeni
Today, we enter into the restricted sections of Upper Mustang. At the checkpoint, we show our permits and fulfill all the general requirements to enter into the region. We follow the trail that moves along with Kaligandaki river. With alluring views of wild landscape in backdrop, we walk along the undulating path up and down to pass some charming villages like Tangbe and Chusang. We can explore the narrow mud made and white painted alleys and pass the beautiful orchards of apple all the way to Chele. Overnight at Chele
Leaving Chele, we continue through the trail that undulates up and down through some steep climbs and descents. On the way, we pass some interesting villages, farmlands and lush terrain with soothing views of mountains like Nilgiri, Tilicho eak, Annapurna Himal and Yakawa Kang. We also come across sky caves that dates back to centuries. After the climb up and general walk along the trail to pass villages like Bhena, we drop down to the village of Syangbochen. It’s a beautiful village in a wonderful setting deep into the valley. Overnight at Syangbochen.
After breakfast, we warm up ourselves for the walk ahead. We climb up gently to cross a pass at the heights of 3800 meters. From here, we can get some astonishing views of mountains and valleys. The endless gullies to the north, east and west of the trail is amazing. So are the views of Mt. Nilgiri, Ttilicho peak and Annapurna Himal in the south. The scenic views acts as an aid to pas sour timely easy to the village of Ghami. After arriving at Ghami, we explore the ancient village and visit some interesting monasteries, chortens and manu walls in here. Overnight at Ghami.
As we leave Ghami, we pass one of the longest mani walls of Mustang on the edges of Ghami village. At first we descend down a rough and slippery path to cross a suspension bridge that lies over the Ghami river. After crossing the river, we begin to ascend up along a beautiful trail adorned with mani walls. As we move ahead, we cross the Tsarang La pass that lies at an altitude of 3870 meters. We cross the pass to reach the village of Tsarang. Tsarang is the second largest village in Mustang and used to be the capital of the region prior to Lo Manthang. Overnight at Tsarang
Leaving Tsarang, we start descending down to the canyon. After descending down to the river bed, we cross the river and start ascending up to the Lo La pass that lies at an altitude of 3950 meters. From the pass, we can admire some classic and heart whelming views of Lo Manthang village. We drop down from the pass and continue descending down until we reach the capital city of Upper Mustang – Lo Manthang. During our walk down, we will be rewarded with some stunning views of Mt. Nilgiri, Mt. Annapurna I, Tilicho peak, Bhrikuti peak, Damodar kunda, etc. Overnight at Lo Manthang.
Lo Manthang is an authentic village in Upepr Mustang that treasures some interesting palaces, monasteries and monuments that dates back to century. The village is also the capital city or the administrative center of Upper Mustang. Today, we spend our time exploring the authentic natural beauty and cultural richness of this place. At first, we walk to the Mustang King’s palace which is a five storey palace resided by the royal family of Mustang. Then we ascend up on a hilltop to visit Namgyal gompa. The gompa also serves as the local courthouse. Leaving the gompa, we head towards Tigkar village which is a beautiful village of the region with around 40 households. Finally, we visit Jampa Lhakang (a house of large Buddha stone) and explore Chosar. Here, we can visit Nyphu cave monastery and Jhong sky cave that is 2500 years old. Overnight in Lo Manthang.
Today, we embark our return journey but through a different route. We leave the village of Lo Manthang and walk pass Gyakar village. The village has a century old gompa which is also popular as Ghar gompa. There are some beautiful rock paintings inside the gompa. As per a local myth, anyone who comes to this gompa and makes a wish will have his/ her wish fulfilled. We explore this gompa which is around 1200 years old and follow the trail that will lead us to Drakmar. Overnight at Drakmar.
We start our trek early in the morning to avoid the harsh winds that may act as an obstacle to our trek. Today, we continue descending down to the village of Gheling. We follow a trail that passes through dry and arid plateau like landscapes. We pass some cultivated fields with wonderful views of Dhaulagiri Himal and Nilgiri Himal on sight. we stop as we arrive at the village of Gheling. For the remaining time we can explore around the village. Overnight in Gheling
We leave Gheling and continue descending down to the village of Chhuksang. It is the same path that we had taken up to Lo Manthang during the early days of our trekking journey. On our way back to Chhusang, we can enjoy some delighting views of small traditional villages and snowcapped mountains. overnight at Chhuksang
We are almost at the end of our trekking journey. Today, is the last day of our walking journey. We walk gradually via an easy path and to join the trail of Annapurna circuit. We walk pass the border of Mustang at Kagbeni and continue our walk towards Jomsom. Jomsom is best known for its local people and their great hospitality. Overnight at Jomsom
We take an early flight to Pokhara. Upon arrival, you will be escorted to a hotel in Pokhara. You can rest at the hotel in Pokhara. If interested, you can enjoy a sightseeing tour around the Pokhara city. Overnight in Pokhara
Today, we leave Pokhara and take a drive along the highway to Kathmandu. We drive for around six hours along a scenic route to reach Kathmandu. Upon arrival, you will be transferred to your hotel room in Kathmandu. Overnight in Kathmandu
Finally, it’s time for departure. You will be transferred to the airport few hours before your scheduled flight.
