Trip Overview

Upper Dolpo Trek is a remote land located to the north of Mt. Dhaulagiri range. The entire Dolpo region is in the rain shadow of Dhaulagiri massif towards the Tibetan plateau. The vast region is part of the Karnali region, rich in natural and cultural resources and resembles the paradise. Separate from the rest of the world, the area is in cocooned state, thus presenting the perfect prospect for travelers looking for new lands and fresh knowledge. Trekking to Upper Dolpo will allow you to explore the rural areas in the Karnali region and take a sneak peek into the lives locals from this side of isolated world.

Upper Dolpo trek offers the lifetime experience of venturing off the beaten trail located deep in the Himalayas of Nepal. Undiscovered routes are the main features where the trail traverse to Sangda  La pass towards the Tibetan region. It also features Bagala and Numa La passes which are above 5,300 m each. You will experience a different world travelling through several high passes, hidden villages and barren lands. You will come across several isolated ancient villages, snowy mountains and a very beautiful lake with magnificent scenery view on the background of Mt. Kadmara and Dhaulagiri mountain range. The ancient Tibetan salt caravan trail exposes the life style and ancient trade patterns within the Nepali border.

Apart from these, Dolpo is filled with rare wildlife and ecosystem. Dolpo is home for elusive snow leopard, blue sheep, mountain musk deer etc. Throughout the trekking journey, you pass chain of high passes rich in spectacular panorama of Dhaulagiri and Kanjirowa mountain ranges along with Mt. Riwo Drugdra also known as the Crystal Mountain etc.

Himalayas Hiking will make your journey a safe and memorable one. It is recommended that you possess past experience in travelling in vast barren lands to take on this trip. The difficulty level is strenuous and requires tent camping over the 5000m altitude. The walks and stays are in isolated areas, thus, it is also mentally challenging as well. Unlike other trekking routes, this route is uncharted and tough giving it more adrenaline and making it the tough road to reach the virgin land.

As soon as you arrive at Kathmandu, the preparation starts with a short stay in Kathmandu. The journey begins from Jhupal airport at Dolpo District via Nepalgunj. You must always listen and follow the instructions of the guides carefully for better enjoyment and safety.
